What Job Growth Means for Commercial Real Estate

Midland’s job growth has earned national attention. Ranking second nationally and first in Texas, the Midland metropolitan area recorded 3.3% growth in nonfarm payroll employment from August 2025 to August 2026, according to Bureau of Labor Statistics data highlighted by the City of Midland. Employment increased from 125,700 to 129,800, adding approximately 4,100 jobs over the year. Midland’s growth rate also exceeded the statewide rate of 1.0%.

The activity is also reflected across the broader Permian Basin. The Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas reported employment gains across most Midland-Odessa sectors during the second quarter of 2026, alongside a 3% quarterly increase in Permian oil production. While these figures cover an earlier reporting period, they offer additional support for the business activity supporting the region.
More jobs often mean needing more space – and that’s where NRG Realty Group comes in. That could mean additional offices, a larger industrial facility or more yard space for equipment and vehicles. That can create opportunities for property owners and investors, although job growth alone does not establish higher occupancy or rising rents. Location, building specifications and the needs of individual businesses still determine whether a property is the right fit.

For businesses running short on space, starting the search early gives them more time to find a suitable facility. NRG Realty Group helps businesses, owners and investors find industrial and commercial properties in West Texas and beyond that fit their operations and goals.
